Background

Terri Diffenderfer started her career with a BA in English Education from Hastings College, right here in Nebraska. But from that first teaching job in Beatrice, work always included publications including newspapers, yearbooks, and finally photography and commercial publishing. Great experiences with University of Nebraska-Lincoln mentors while earning a MA in Journalism and Mass Communication brought her back to the classroom at UNK in the fall of 2007. "Because I continue to relish learning every day, I hope for the same from my students," Diffenderfer says about her work at UNK.

To challenge herself, Diffenderfer writes bio features for Dancer Magazine in New York when time allows and does art photography.

Philosophy

Education is a life-long journey, Diffenderfer says. "From the time the first Apple computer came out, I have never stopped the forward march with technology" both fearing and loving the journey into digital design and photography. Because the digital age reinvents itself in a constant cycle, each day flies by with "ah ha" moments in both teaching and learning from students. I love the times when students reach deep to challenge themselves and bring something great to the page. It's great when students make me wish I had thought of that idea myself. For me, journalism is both science and art. I love both aspects.
