Background
I received my doctorate from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and master's and bachelor's degrees from UNK. I was a news reporter and editor for about 12 years. My areas of expertise are media law, mass communication theory and research, writing, and reporting.
Philosophy
Students need to understand media law so they can practice their trades without getting into legal hassles, which can happen. All of my classes also get into ethical discussions--hugely important that professional mass communicators practice their trades making moral and humane decisions. Media and its various functions also are important for the people in their communities and regions. Of course, when done correctly media well serves society and culture.
Classes
Media Law, Mass Media in America, Mass Media and Society, News Writing, Interpretive Reporting, Women, Minorities and Media (web-based), and Introduction to Women's Studies.
