Terri Diffenderfer

Background

Terri Dillman Diffenderfer started a teaching career with a BA in English education from Hastings College, right here in Nebraska. But from those first teaching jobs in Beatrice, Lincoln and Norris, work always included publications including newspapers, yearbooks, and finally photography and commercial publishing.

Great experiences at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln  while working as a graduate assistant and earning a MA in Journalism and Mass Communications brought Diffenderfer back to the classroom at UNK in the fall of 2007 to teach news writing and photo journalism classes and advise the newspaper staff positions.

Diffenderfer writes bio and marketing features for Dancer Magazine in New York and other publications when time allows and produces art photography.

Philosophy

"Education is a life-long journey. Because I continue to relish learning every day, I hope for the same from my students. From the time the first Apple computer came out, I have never stopped the forward march with technology— both fearing and loving the journey into digital design and photography. Because the digital age reinvents itself in a constant cycle, each day flies by with 'ah ha' moments in both teaching and learning from students. I love the times when students reach deep to challenge themselves and bring something great to the page. It's great when students make me wish I had thought of that idea myself. For me, journalism is both science and art. I love both aspects."
