Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Online Degree Completion Program

In the Fall of 2012, the UNK Criminal Justice Department began offering a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (BSCJ) Online Degree Completion Program for students interested in Criminal Justice.  The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Online Degree Completion is a collaborative degree program offered by the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK), the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL). UNK is the degree granting institution. 

This program will allow students to complete all of the requirements for the UNK Criminal Justice Major or UNK Criminal Justice Comprehensive Major online, without ever having to attend classes on University of Nebraska campuses.  Students are strongly recommended to have had completed their general studies courses necessary for a Bachelor's degree independently, before beginning the degree completion coursework.  If general studies courses are not yet complete, students will need to work with the program coordinator to determine best options for completing general studies courses elsewhere while completing online courses at UNK.  While the courses are online, distance students will have access to the same high quality faculty, instructional techniques, and curriculum, as those students attending. The program of study also includes hands-on experience through an internship completed a location convenient to the student.

The BSCJ program is a great fit for students who have already completed some college coursework, but are unable to relocate to the Kearney area. The program is ideal for transfer students who already have community college course credits, working professionals, and those who are seeking a second undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice. The BSCJ program combines courses from the University of Nebraska campuses including Omaha (UNO), Lincoln (UNL), and Kearney (UNK) and will allow students to complete all of the requirements for the criminal justice comprehensive major online, without ever having to attend classes on the UNK campus. Students also have the option to complete the traditional criminal justice major, which includes a completing a minor in another area of study (***please speak to the online program coordinator about online minor programs available).

Online courses in criminal justice are currently being offered on all three of the University of Nebraska campuses, and students interested in online courses can begin at the start of each semester (fall, spring or summer).  A variety of core courses will be offered at different times throughout the calendar year and online students are not required to come to UNK’s campus. February 7: Tuition and Fees due in full for Spring 2013 classes

March: Advising begins for the Summer and Fall 2013 semesters to currently enrolled UNK students

March 18-24: Spring Break - All classes dismissed (UNK offices open)

April 1-16: MyBlue Early Registration opens (students may begin registering based on class standing and last four digits of their NUID number)

  When should I apply for admission?  Individuals who have already completed high school should submit their application at least four weeks prior to the start of the term in which they are seeking admission.
