Welcome to my webpage. I am an analytical chemist which means I develop ways to detect things in various samples. I teach a variety of courses at UNK including general chemistry, analytical chemistry, and instrumental analysis. If you have any questions, please feel free to stop by my office, send me an email or give me a call.
Every semester I am looking for potential undergraduate research students. If doing research in chemistry interests you, please take a look at the link below.

Recently, I characterized an L-thyroxine aptamer. Aptamers consist of single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) and unlike antibodies can be identified and synthesized using an entirely in vitro process. Currently, the use of aptamers in affinity chromatography has been limited to only a few published applications. To ensure that aptamers could be used to generate binding assays, I determined the equilibrium and rate constants of an anti-L-thyroxine aptamer under a variety of conditions and compared these to the results obtained for anti-thyroxine antibodies. From these results, it was found that aptamers could be used as substitutes for antibodies to generate binding assays for other analytes of clinical or environmental interest.
