Praxis Information for Departments

The information provided below is intended to help you as you advise students who are in a teacher preparation program.

Praxis Core (formerly Praxis I or PPST)

The Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) exams are required for admission into educator preparation programs and for teaching certificates in Nebraska.

Registration: To register for the exams and for information, students visit the ETS website. Students should indicate UNK 6467 and Nebraska Department of Education as score recipients. While on the ETS website, students are advised to check out the test preparation information so they know how to prepare and what to bring with them on the day of the tests. For example, students must bring a valid drivers license or passport; without a valid photo ID, students are not allowed to take the test and lose their fees.

Scores and Exceptions: The Praxis Core consists of three tests with passing scores as follows: Reading - 156, Math - 150, Writing - 162. The Nebraska Department of Education will accept a non-passing score if all of the following criteria are met:

  1. The composite score of all three tests is 468 or above, and
  2. Two tests receive passing scores with at least one test above the passing score, and
  3. One test is within one point of the passing score. If you believe you qualify for the exception, contact the Educator Certification Office for verification.

Accommodations: Students with disabilities, health-related needs, or whose primary language is not English, can request accommodations through ETS. Accommodations must be requested prior to registering for a Praxis test. Students who re-take a test must request accommodations each time they register.
