Practicum

If you are renewing a teaching certificate that had been expired for over 5 years, you will need to take a 3 credit hour practicum as part of the 15 required credit hours of course work.  The practicum requires three weeks of teaching in a classroom at the appropriate grade level and in the subject area of the original certificate (where applicable).  If you have a teaching job that fits the criteria, the practicum may be conducted in your own classroom.  Requirements include an observation while teaching and written reflections on the experience.  An application must be completed and approved before permission to take the practicum is granted.  Contact the Director of Field Experiences for the application.

If you are adding an endorsement to a teaching certificate, you will need to take a 3 credit hour practicum as the culminating course of the program.  The practicum requires 7 weeks of teaching in a classroom at the appropriate grade level and in the subject area of the additional endorsement (where applicable).  If you have a teaching job that fits the criteria, the practicum may be conducted in your own classroom.  Requirements include an observation while teaching and written reflections on the experience.  An application must be completed and approved by your advisor before permission to take the practicum is granted.  Contact the Director of Field Experiences for the application.
