College of B&T Merit Scholarships

Applications can be made from February 1st through midnight on the last day of February each year. All applicants will be notified of their results in early May.  Each scholarship has its own set of criteria.

 

 

COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND TECHNOLOGY 
   
BRIAN AND CAREY HAMILTON SCHOLARSHIP  For students enrolled in the College of Business and Technology at the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a cumulative gpa of 3.0 or above. 
   
DALE L. & ELLEN J.  SCHROEDER SCHOLARSHIP  Established to provide financial assistance to a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior student. Recipients must be majoring in Criminal Justice, Political Science, or any major within the College of Business and Technology, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and have graduated from a Nebraska high school.   
   
DR. KENNETH N. BENNET MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP  This can be awarded to a student pursuing any major in the College of Business and Technology. A GPA of 2.5 and demonstrated financial need are requirements.  
   
EDITH GUNLICKS MEMORIAL STUDENT SUPPORT FUND  The recipient must be enrolled in the College of Business and Technology with junior, senior or graduate class standing the term following selection.  A minimum grade point average of 3.0 is required.  The recipient must be a U.S. citizen.  Preference is given to candidates who are parents of dependent children.  
   
HENNING FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP  This scholarship provides an award to a varying number of recipients across 3 colleges each year, with any major in the College of Business and Technology being one of them.    
   
LANDSTROM FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT  Scholarship is to go to a senior with any major in CBT with a 3.5 GPA, and financial need. 
   
LANDSTROM/TAYLOR ENDOWED BUSINESS FUND  Recipients of this shall be enrolled in the College of Business and Technology.  Candidates shall be sophomores or above and have a 3.25 or above GPA.  Preference will go to candidates who have demonstrated financial need. 
   
MATTSON FAMILY ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP  The recipient of this scholarship must have sophomore class standing or above and be enrolled full-time in the College of Business & Technology, Education, or Fine Arts & Humanities. 
   
MR. & MRS. JOHN J. BOASEN SCHOLARSHIP  Established by Mrs. John J. Boasen in memory of her husband, this scholarship will be awarded to students enrolled in the College of Business.   
   
OLDFATHER FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP  This scholarship will be awarded to one or more regularly enrolled undergraduate students in the College of Business & Technology.   
   
PATRICIA RHOADES BACONRIND SCHOLARSHIP  Scholarship shall be awarded to at least (2) full-time CBT students; one majoring in Business Education and involved in Phi beta Lambda, and one to any major in the College of Business and Technology. Students must be a junior or senior, have a 3.0 GPA, with preference given to students from Arthur, Chase, Cheyenne, Deuel, Garden, Grant, Keith, Kimball, Otoe and Perkins counties.  
   
TERRY R. PERSON COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP SUBFUND  This scholarship is a sub-fund which is shared with an athletic scholarship. It can be awarded to a student pursuing any major in CBT, who also has financial need.  
   
BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION   
   
DAVID V. GARWOOD SCHOLARSHIP  The purpose of this scholarship is to support students in the Business Department.  Financial need shall be the main criterion.  Past academic achievement and demonstration of potential for future academic and professional accomplishments may be considered.  
   
J. A. & FERN BALDWIN SCHOLARSHIP  Established by a gift from J. A. & Fern Baldwin to provide financial assistance to a junior or senior student majoring in Business Administration or Economics.  Eligible students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA in their discipline.  Selection will be based upon financial need. 
   
KEARNEY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIP  Candidates shall be members of or dependents of members of the Kearney Federal Credit Union; preference given to students pursuing a major in the Business Department, College of Business and Technology with a junior class standing. 
   
LARRY D. & JEFFE D. HALL SCHOLARSHIP:   Established to help support students at UNK. Recipients shall be full-time juniors or seniors majoring in Business with a minimum 2.75 GPA.  They must be meeting the University academic requirements.  Although financial need may be considered, it should not be the determining factor.   
   
MARCUS DECAMP MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP  This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate majoring in Management, Marketing, Accounting, Finance or Economics.  The recipient must be a senior with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above.  Students with financial need are preferred.   
   
NEBRASKA BANKERS SCHOLARSHIP  Awarded to incoming freshmen who are pursuing a major in one of the following programs in the College of Business:  Accounting, Finance, Economics, Management, Agribusiness, Management Information Systems or Marketing.  Must be admitted to UNK by February 1;  scholarship is renewable. 
   
PAYNE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP  Established by the Payne family, the scholarship shall be awarded to a Business Administration major.  Criteria include a minimum 2.5 GPA, past academic achievement, and potential for future academic and professional accomplishments.   
   
PHI BETA LAMBDA SCHOLARSHIP  This scholarship will be awarded to a member of Phi Beta Lambda with fifteen hours inclusive of business or related courses.  The recipient must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.   
   
R.B. WELCH FAMILY MEMORIAL   This scholarship shall be awarded to full-time students majoring in Management, Marketing, Business Administration, Accounting or Finance within the College of Business and Technology.  Candidates shall have a 2.5 to 3.0 GPA.  Preference will be given to candidates with a part-time job. 
   
RAY E. LUNDY SCHOLARSHIP  This scholarship is awarded to one or more  graduate students of UNK in Business Administration.  Selection is based on academic achievement and demonstration of potential for future academic and professional accomplishments.   
   
ROBERT S. & JANE AYRES SCHOLARSHIP  Established to provide financial assistance to a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior student majoring in Business.   
   
THE ENDER FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP  Established by gifts from Mrs. Arnold Ender in memory of her husband to provide financial assistance to students majoring in Business Administration.  Recipients must be a junior or senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA in their discipline.  Financial need shall be considered.   
   
THE PLATTE VALLEY STATE BANK & TRUST COMPANY SCHOLARSHIP  Established to help support students of UNK in the College of Business or Business-related area, i.e. Mathematics, Computer Science, etc. Recipients must be a high school graduate of Buffalo County or an adjacent county with a  3.0 or above GPA.  
   
THEODORE G. BALDWIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP  Established by the friends and family of the late Theodore G. Baldwin to provide financial assistance to high school graduates of Kearney High School who will be majoring in Business. 
   
WALTER F. DEYLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP  Established in memory of Walter F. Deyle by friends, family and associates, this scholarship will be awarded to a senior student majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in real estate.  The recipient must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and a 3.5 GPA in business classes.   
   
WAYNE R. & VIRGINIA E. L. McKINNEY FAMILY  SCHOLARSHIP  Established to help support students enrolled at UNK.  Three scholarships will be awarded each year, one to a Business major, one to a Speech-Language Pathology student, and one to an athlete in any field of study.  Selection criteria include a minimum 3.0 GPA, with first consideration given to students from Buffalo County and then to students from Central Nebraska.  
   
ACCOUNTING   
   
BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP  Established in 1978 by the Business Department, to provide financial assistance  to students who are majoring in Business Administration and/or Accounting. 
   
CONTRYMAN ASSOCIATES ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP   The recipient of this scholarship must be a senior who is majoring in Accounting in the College of Business and Technology.  Candidates shall have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above and recipient must be entering their 5th year of education and in pursuit of the 150 credit hour accounting requirement. 
   
JOANN & EARL RADEMACHER SCHOLARSHIP  The recipients of this scholarship must be majoring in either Accounting and Finance or Elementary Education and have a class standing of sophomore status.  
   
JOHN E. GORGEN ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP FUND   This scholarship shall be awarded to undergraduate students majoring in accounting who have senior class standing.  They shall have expressed a desire to pursue a career in the area of accounting after graduation.  Preference shall be given to candidates who have demonstrated financial need.  
   
McDERMOTT & MILLER ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP  Recipients must be majoring in Accounting and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5.  Candidates shall have an expressed interest in pursuing a career in the area of public accounting Central Nebraska following graduation.  Recipients must also be in pursuit of completing the credit hours required to qualify for the Certified Public Accountant exam.   
   
PEGGY (ROBINSON) & MICHAEL KELLEY SCHOLARSHIP  Established to assist students of UNK.  Special consideration should be given to students with any of the following attributes: Graduates of Holdrege High School, graduates of Millard North High School, affiliated with Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority or majoring in Accounting.  Selection shall be based on financial need.  
   
SCHMITZ FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP  Three scholarships awarded annually.  One to an Accounting major, one to a Business Education major and one to a Management Information Systems major.  Candidates shall have a minimum GPA of 2.75, be full-time, have demonstrated financial need, and have second semester junior status.   
   
VERLYN R. OBERING ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP  Established by CPA Verlyn Obering, a Kearney State College alumnus.  This scholarship will be awarded to upperclass students majoring in Accounting.  Selection will be based upon merit and financial need.  
   
FINANCE   
   
JOANN & EARL RADEMACHER SCHOLARSHIP  The recipients of this scholarship must be majoring in either Accounting and Finance or Elementary Education and have a class standing of sophomore status.  
   
AGRI-BUSINESS   
   
RON COPE AGRI-BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP  Established by Carol Cope in memory of  her husband Ron, this scholarship shall be  awarded to a student majoring in Agri-Business.  The recipient shall have junior class standing and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Financial need may be considered.   
   
BUSINESS EDUCATION   
   
CLARA OCKINGA BUSINESS EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP  Established by Clara Ockinga, a member of the Business Department faculty for over 31 years, this scholarship will be awarded to a second semester sophomore or junior majoring in Business Education.  The recipient must have at least a minimum 2.5 GPA.  Selection is based upon scholarship, financial need, and a good moral character.  
   
KRUBECK SCHOLARSHIP  Established to celebrate the life of Dr. Floyd E. Krubeck.  This scholarship shall be awarded to regularly enrolled undergraduate students majoring in Business Education, Construction Management, Industrial Distribution, or Telecommunications Management, College Business & Technology.  Recipients shall have a sophomore or above class standing and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above to be considered for this scholarship.   
   
PATRICIA RHOADES BACONRIND SCHOLARSHIP  Scholarship shall be awarded to at least (2) full-time CBT students; one majoring in Business Education and involved in Phi beta Lambda, and one to any major in the College of Business and Technology. SHIRLEY A. HOUSTON SCHOLARSHIP  This will be awarded to a student in the Business Education, Department of Economics, of the CBT. Incoming freshmen to seniors will be eligible.  
   
ECONOMICS   
   
LORI PRAUNER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP  Established to commemorate the life of Lori Prauner, this scholarship shall be awarded to students majoring in Economics or Management/Marketing in the College of Business and Technology.  Recipients shall have a junior or above class standing, a cumulative GPA or 3.0 or above, and a farming or ranching background.  Preference shall be given to students who qualify for the work-study program.  Financial need shall be considered but need not be the sole determinant.   
   
J. A. & FERN BALDWIN SCHOLARSHIP  Established by a gift from J. MARKETING

MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS 
   
ETHEL KELLY SCHOLARSHIP  Scholarship will be awarded to a student with sophomore class standing or above, in the Department of Marketing and Management Information Systems. The student must also have demonstrated community involvement and financial need.  
   
SCHMITZ FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP  Three scholarships awarded annually.  One to an Accounting major, one to a Business Education major and one to a Management Information Systems major.  Candidates shall have a minimum GPA of 2.75, be full-time, have demonstrated financial need, and have second semester junior status.   
   
VIVIAN AND LLOYD CARTER SCHOLARSHIP  This scholarship is awarded to full-time student majoring or minoring in Management Information Systems program, Department of Marketing and Management Information Systems, in the CBT. Student must be at least a sophomore with community involvement, and financial need.  
   
FAMILY STUDIES & INTERIOR DESIGN 
   
BERNICE D. MANTOR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP  Established by the friends and family of the late Mrs. Mantor to provide financial assistance to a junior or senior student majoring in Family Studies and Interior Design.  The recipient  must have a minimum 2.5 GPA.  Selection is based upon scholarship, accomplishment, professional goals and participation in campus activities.   
   
DEBRA DIRKS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP  Established by the friends and family of Debra Dirks, this scholarship will be awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior student majoring in Family Studies and Interior Design.  The recipient must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and demonstrate financial need.   
   
DELIA GARRETT SCHOLARSHIP  Established in memory of Delia Garrett, this scholarship shall be awarded to a student majoring in Family Studies and Interior Design. The primary consideration in awarding this scholarship is financial need.  
   
GAMMA PHI BETA – KAY CHRISTENSEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP  Established in memory of deceased members of the sorority, this scholarship will be awarded to an upperclass student with a major or minor in Family Studies and Interior Design.  Candidates shall have have a minimum 3.0 GPA.    
   
GEORGIA WARREN SPELTS SCHOLARSHIP  Awarded to a full-time undergraduate in the Department of Family Studies and Interior Design.  Recipient must have a sophomore class standing or above, a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and be a graduate of a Nebraska high school.   
   
HAZEL AND STELLA SCHRACK SCHOLARSHIP  Established in honor of Hazel and Stella Schrack  to provide financial assistance to students majoring in Family Studies and Interior Design. 
   
MARY BADGER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP  This scholarship shall be awarded to a student who is a senior majoring in Family Studies and Interior Design in the College of Business & Technology.  Candidates shall have expressed a desire to pursue a career in education.  A cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 is required.   
   
WILLAMETTE MARTIN SCHOLARSHIP  Established by Jarome Martin in honor of Willamette, this scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in Family & Consumer Sciences.  The recipient must be a sophomore, junior, or senior, and have a minimum 2.5 GPA.  Preference shall be given to applicants who graduated from Kearney High School. 
   
FAMILY STUDIES   
   
FAMILY STUDIES OUTSTANDING STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP  Established to help students preparing for a career in Family Studies.  Preference shall be given to graduates of any accredited Nebraska high school who meet the following qualifications: full-time enrollment in the Department of Family Studies (15 hrs. minimum), junior or senior status, minimum 2.5 GPA, demonstrated aptitude and potential for the profession, and demonstrate financial need.  
   
MARY BEEKMAN SCHOLARSHIP  For students in the College of B&T majoring in Family Studies.  Must have sophomore class standing of sophomore or above, gpa of 3.5, preference to students with financial need. 
   
SHARYN AND EDWARD CROSSMAN SCHOLARSHIP  Established to help support qualified students of UNK in Family Studies and Interior Design with one award made each year to a junior or senior student majoring in Human Development and Family Relationships.  The recipient must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, including a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in the major.  The student must be active in one or more department student organizations. If a suitable applicant is not found the scholarship will be awarded to another student with a major in the department.   
   
INTERIOR DESIGN   
   
LARRY AND KATHRYN EDWARDS FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP  This scholarship provides at least one scholarship to a student majoring in Interior Design, and one to an Industrial Distribution major. Students must have a 3.0 GPA, be involved in campus, and show financial need.  
   
INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY FRESHMAN SCHOLARSHIPS 
   
DAISY KUSKIE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP   This scholarship shall be awarded to regularly enrolled undergraduates majoring in Industrial Technology.  Candidates shall be incoming freshman and shall have a 3.0 or above GPA. 
   
DORA DAY SCHOLARSHIP   Candidates shall have freshman class standing, cumulative gpa of 2.5, be graduates of Kearney High or Kearney Catholic and have a major or minor in Industrial Technology. 
   
FRONTIER COMMUNICATIONS FRESHMAN SCHOLARSHIP   Awarded to an incoming freshman with a declare major in Information Networking and Telecommunications.  Recipients must be enrolled in ITEC 150 and 110 during the first semester; must have demonstrated academic ability, professionalism in attitude, character, quality in work and academic skills. 
   
LARRY LUDDEN SCHOLARSHIP   Recipient will be an incoming freshman majoring in Industrial Education.  Previous high school experience in industrial education as well as gpa will be a consideration. 
   
INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY   
   
ARMAGOST FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP IN MEMORY OF ROB ARMAGOST  Established by a gift of the Armagost Family in memory of Rob Armagost, this scholarship will be awarded to full-time undergraduate students in the Department of Industrial Technology. Recipients shall have junior or senior class standing.  Preference will be given to Industrial Technology majors who participate in a varsity intercollegiate athletic program sponsored by UNK.   
   
DR. ARTHUR L. STEGEMAN SCHOLARSHIP  Established to help support students of UNK in the Department of Industrial Technology and/or Athletics.  Selection shall be based on candidates' past academic achievement and demonstration of potential for future academic and professional accomplishment.  Financial need and worthiness will also be considered as well as the applicant's minority status (it being the wish of the Donors that preference be given to minority students where possible).   
   
KRUBECK SCHOLARSHIP  Established to celebrate the life of Dr. Floyd E. Krubeck.  This scholarship shall be awarded to regularly enrolled undergraduate students majoring in Business Education, Construction Management, Industrial Distribution, or Telecommunications Management, College Business & Technology.  Recipients shall have a sophomore or above class standing and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above to be considered for this scholarship.   
   
MESSMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP  Established to help support students of UNK with a major in the Industrial Technology Department, who shall have achieved at least junior standing at the time of the use of the scholarship.  Selection criteria considered are past academic achievement and demonstration of potential for future academic and professional accomplishments.  Although financial need may be considered as a criterion, it should not be the determinant factor.   
   
ORA F. AND ZELMA LINDAU FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP  Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student majoring in Industrial Technology.  The recipient must be a sophomore or above and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above.  Financial need is required.   
   
OTTO OLSEN INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP  Established by former Kearney State College Professor Otto Olsen, this scholarship will be awarded to a sophomore or junior student preparing for a career in Industrial Technology. 
   
CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT   
   
ANITA NICKMAN/WEST CENTRAL NEBRASKA HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP  Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate majoring in Construction Management in the Department of Industrial Technology.  The recipient must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and sophomore class standing or above.   
   
BAMFORD FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP   This scholarship shall be awarded to undergraduate students in the Industrial Technology Department.  Candidates should be majoring in Construction Management and have sophomore or above class standing.    
   
ED BROADFOOT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP  Established to provide financial assistance to one or more undergraduate students majoring in Construction Management in the College of Business and Technology.  Recipients must be graduates of Kearney High School or Elm Creek High School and have a desire to pursue a career in construction management upon graduation.  
   
KIEWIT BUILDING GROUP SCHOLARSHIP  Awarded to a junior or senior majoring in Construction Management or Construction Engineering.  Candidates must have a minimum cumulative gpa of 3.0.  Candidates must demonstrate involvement defined as minimum of 2 extra-curricular or volunteer activities in the past academic year; must demonstrate interest in a career in construction as evidenced by the essay in the online scholarship application.   
   
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF HOME BUILDERS SCHOLARSHIP  The number of recipients will be determined by the grant amount received by the local home builders association from the national home builders.  The recipient must be a full-time second semester freshman or above.  The student must be majoring in Industrial Technology/Construction Management/or Interior Design and be a member of the NAHB student chapter at UNK.  A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.  To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must submit a written letter of application addressed to the West Central Nebraska Home Builders Scholarship committee explaining career goals in the construction management field.  This letter must be submitted to the UNK Office of Financial Aid and will be forwarded to the scholarship selection committee along with information submitted on the on-line application.  
   
NEBRASKA CONCRETE AND AGGREGATES ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP  Awarded to 2 undergraduates majoring in Construction Management.  Recipients must have sophomore or above class standing and cumulative gpa or 3.0 minimum.  
   
INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTION   
   
ABC SUPPLY COMPANY  Established to provide assistance to students majoring in Industrial Technology with an option in Industrial Distribution, Department of Industrial Technology.  Candidates must have class standing of sophomore or above and a gpa of 3.0 or above.  Preference shall be given to students who are actively involved in the Industrial Distribution Organization at UNK. 
   
CED ENTERPRISE INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTION SCHOLARSHIP  Candidates shall be pursuing a major in Industrial Distribution, department of Industrial Technology, College of B&T; must have a junior or senior class standing, cumulative gpa of 3.0 or above and be members in the IDO at UNK. 
   
JAMES SCHMID MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP  This scholarship is awarded to undergraduates majoring in Industrial Distribution.  Preference is given to students with demonstrated financial need.   
   
L.D. SUPPLY, INC. INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTION SCHOLARSHIP  This scholarship will be awarded to students majoring in Industrial Distribution in the College of Business and Technology.  Recipients shall have junior or senior class standing and a minimum 3.0 GPA.  
   
LARRY AND KATHRYN EDWARDS FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP  This scholarship provides at least one scholarship to a student majoring in Interior Design, and one to an Industrial Distribution major. Students must have a 3.0 GPA, be involved in campus, and show financial need.  
   
MOLEX INC. INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTION SCHOLARSHIP  Awarded to undergraduate student in the Industrial Distribution program.  Candidates shall have minimum gpa of 3.0 and sophomore class standing or above.  Preference to students who are actively involved in the Industrial Distribution Organization. 
   
PAPE' GROUP INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTION SCHOLARSHIP  Recipients of this scholarship shall be undergraduates majoring in Industrial Distribution.  Candidates shall be sophomore status or above and have a 3.0 or above GPA.   
   
WINWHOLESALE INC.  Recipients of this scholarship will be majoring in Industrial Distribution in the Department of Industrial Technology, College of Business and Technology and will have a sophomore class standing or above.  
   
WOMACK MACHINE SUPPLY INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTION SCHOLARSHIP FUND  This is for students majoring in Industrial Distribution, CBT. Students must have a 2.8 GPA, with one sophomore, one junior, and one senior being chosen. An interest in the technical aspect of ID will give a student preference. 
   
TELECOMMUNICATIONS MANAGEMENT 
   
FRONTIER COMMUNICATIONS SCHOLARSHIP  Awarded to a junior with a declared major in Information Networking and Telecommunications.  The recipient is required to have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and a 3.0 grade point average in department courses.  Students must be full-time, a member of the Information Networking and Telecommunications Student Leadership Group and must have completed ITEC 335 and be enrolled in or completed ITEC 345 and all required prerequisites.  Additionally the recipient must demonstrate a professional attitude, character, quality of academic work and quality of communication skills.
