THE STRUCTURE OF THE GENERAL STUDIES PROGRAM
The UNK GS Program is a 45-hour requirement of all undergraduate students who plan on graduating with a baccalaureate degree. The GS Program is a distributed program with courses selected from a number of different categories and perspectives within each category. The outline of the GS Program categories and their respective perspectives is:
- ENGLISH LANGUAGE (9 hours)
- English Composition
- Speech
- FOREIGN LANGUAGE (0 – 3 hours)
- FINE ARTS AND HUMANITIES (9 – 15 hours)
- Literary Perspectives
- Aesthetic Perspectives
- Historical Perspectives
- Philosophic Perspectives
- MATHEMATICS, STATISTICS, and COMPUTER SCIENCE) (3 - 6 hours)

- Computer Science
- NATURAL SCIENCES (7 – 15 hours)
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Geography and Earth Science
- Physics
- SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES (9 – 15 hours)

Objectives have been approved for each of the categories and perspectives within each category. A detailed listing of the student outcomes have been provided in Appendix 2.
