Bicak informed the Council that the Program Review process is entering its third and final phase of data collection. Focus groups are being formed with students where face-to-face discussions will take place. This process will be completed by the end of the year.

Dick Jussel announced to the Council that he is retiring and this would be the last meeting with him as Director.

- General Studies Program Review:
Bicak informed the Council that the Alumni and Faculty surveys have been collected. There were approximately 560 Alumni called and 431 responses were received. The return rate from the Faculty was about 80%. The survey for the currently enrolled students has not been completed yet. The student survey will consist of small groups in a face-to-face setting. Bicak stated that the search for an external reviewer is still continuing.

- OLD BUSINESS:
- General Studies Program Review:
Bicak informed the Council that Faculty surveys had been sent out and the return rate of those surveys is about 75%. Bicak, Jussel, and Dr. Roark will be meeting soon to select an External Reviewer and to go over the Alumni survey. In addition, students have been contacted to make the phone calls for the student survey. The goal is to have ten students making the calls over a period of ten evenings. The phone survey will start with the next two weeks. Schipporeit distributed a copy of the results from the Graduating Student Survey from the Office of the Student Records and Registration as an example.
- NEW BUSINESS:
Jussel recently attended a Board of Regents meeting to discuss assessment.
- MISCELLANEOUS:
Jussel informed the Council that he recently reported on General Studies Assessment at the Board of Regents meeting, along with personnel from UNL and UNO. The Board of Regents discussed how we assess the effectiveness of our General Studies Program and what we assess?
After some discussion, Jeanne Cutler suggested one possible way of assessing would be to design a questionnaire on Web-Easi with about 5 or 6 questions. Seniors would need to answer these questions before they register for classes for the second semester their senior year. Once the questions are answered, a flag will be lifted to allow them to register.

Bicak distributed copies of the Program Review Survey that will be sent to Faculty. The Council expressed some concern about some of the questions. The Council felt that the questions were too general and the Council wanted to know what the philosophy was in creating the questionnaire. After much discussion, the Council will meet next week with John Anderson to evaluate the survey and make the necessary changes.

Bicak updated the Council on the General Studies Program Review. A faculty survey will be finished in about two weeks. Some of the Council members stated their desire to review the questions on the survey before it is sent out. The Council will participate in the review process of the survey. There is a possibility that a GA will be hired to collect the data. The actual review will take place in February or March.

- Biology Proposal:
Bicak presented a proposal for Biology 103 to be approved at WI. Bicak stated that the course would be a pilot course for the spring semester. The course would have 20-24 students enrolled and the course would be treated as an essay and case orientated course.
The General Studies Council will vote on this course at the next meeting.
