Encourage Students to Participate in the 2013 National Survey of Student Engagement

Last week, roughly 2900 freshman and senior undergraduate students received invitations to participate in the National Survey of Student Engagement.  This is an online survey that students can take at their leisure between February 5 and early March.  They will be sent a total of five invitations during that time period so they don’t forget after the initial invitation.  Faculty members, please take a moment in your freshman and senior classes to encourage students to look for this email invitation and participate.  Results will be more valuable to UNK as an institution with greater participation by the student body.

One value-added benefit, for academic departments, of encouraging students to take the survey is the capability to break out results by student major, to a limited extent.  Those interested in having information about students’ perceptions of their college experience can have access to it.  This may be helpful for Academic Program Reviews and to provide additional data for program assessment.  Results will be available in the summer, but please contact the assessment director anytime between now and then to request data sets.

Majors students can choose from are:
Arts and Humanities
Biological Science
Business
Education
Engineering
Physical Science
Professional
Social Science
Other
Undecided

For those not in academic departments, data can also be broken out by other demographics, including transfer status, veteran status, full-time versus part-time, on campus versus off campus versus fraternity or sorority house, first generation students, gender, and ethnicity.

If anyone has questions, contact Beth Hinga, Assessment Director at hingabd@unk.edu or 308-865-8006.

SVCASA Office Implements Digital Measures Module to Manage Faculty Data

The Senior Vice Chancellor’s office recently acquired a web-based solution to manage faculty data.  The Activity Insight module from Digital Measures will be utilized to collect information about faculty accomplishments and professional activities.   It will allow for easy generation of annual activity reports, address accreditation requirements, provide reports for external constituents, and more.  A campus committee has begun meeting to customize the system to meet UNK’s needs.  Faculty will be hearing more in the near future.  The Office of Institutional Research is coordinating the implementation.
