Marketing and MIS Wins University-Wide UDTA Award

The 2012 recipient of the University-wide Departmental Teaching Award (UDTA) is the Department of Marketing and Management Information Systems from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. The department was recognized at a luncheon on April 3, where President Milliken presented the award.

President Milliken said, “The UNK Department of Marketing and Management Information Systems is a highly deserving recipient of this award. The department and its faculty have demonstrated a deep commitment to enriching students’ education through innovative new courses, hands-on learning, close collaborations with local businesses, and outside-the-classroom experiences such as study abroad and service learning. The department’s students leave UNK fully prepared to become leaders in their business communities. This is a great benefit to the university, Kearney area and state as a whole."

For more information, see the press release from the University of Nebraska.

The UDTA is one of four distinguished awards the University of Nebraska presents annually to recipients throughout the university system. The awards “recognize especially meritorious research and teaching efforts by individuals and within academic departments.” The UDTA “honors a department/unit at the University of Nebraska which has outstanding esprit de corps in its dedication to the education of students at the undergraduate, graduate, or professional levels.”

Past recipients of the UDTA are posted on the UN website. Past UNK recipients of the UDTA are posted in the Faculty Awards section of the UNK website.

Congratulations to the Department of Marketing and Management Information Systems!

1940 Census Release Coming Soon

April 2, 2012 marks the date when the 1940 Census records will be released to the general public! The first Federal Population Census was taken in 1790, and has been taken every ten years since.

The U.S. government will not release personally identifiable information about an individual to any other individual or agency until 72 years after it is collected for the decennial census. This “72-Year Rule” (92 Stat. 915; Public Law 95-416; October 5, 1978) restricts access to decennial census records to all but the individual named on the record or their legal heir.

census

After 72 years, the records are released to the public by the National Archives and Records Administration. In accordance with the 72-Year Rule, the National Archives released the 1930 records in April 2002. The 1940 records will be released April 2, 2012.

The Census Bureau also provides fun facts about each decade. Go back in time and check out what was happening during the 1940’s.

Links to a variety of Census information are available at the UNK Library. On the main library page, type the word “census” in the search box to get started. Please don’t hesitate to ask for assistance.
