Submitted Fall, 2005
Capstone Course – Practicum in Counseling (CSP 885) is required in all programs prior to the internship, near the completion of the program. Each student must demonstrate effective counseling skills with clients before registering for the internship (CSP 892 or CSP 992). Students submit a videotape sample for review by faculty not teaching the class. In addition, CSP 922, Problem Solving Assessment Practicum, is required of all school psychology students. Students must demonstrate the required assessment, consultation and measurement skills and are assessed by the faculty.

Interpretation and Recommendations:
CSP 885:
The results of this assessment indicate that those practicum students evaluated are able to demonstrate effective counseling skills. All faculty are using the assessment rubric and tracking student progress consistently.
CSP 922:
The results of the assessment of CSP 922 indicate much broader range of skills across the 16 students. While all students attained mastery, three of the students were at minimal mastery. The School Psychology Committee evaluated these results and has determined that a clinical course of this intensity should be limited to include no more than 10 students. The amount of clinical supervision and feedback required exceeds what is possible with 16 students in the class.
There is ongoing support by the Department to continue the use of this assessment item.
