Many advisors are already using developmental advising techniques and do not even realize it. Developmental advising treats academic advising as a teaching experience for the advisor and a learning experience for the student, and places the responsibility upon the student for their choices. Students develop not only a better understanding of their program of study and the campus, but also form a relationship with their advisor in the process.
