Social Work Assessment Plan (Replaced F05)

Direct Measures

Field Placement Evaluation

All social work students are required to perform a four hundred hours field placement experience at a human service agency during their last semester of studies at UNK. Upon the completion of the internship, the agency supervisor who is usually a social work practitioner in the field (not associated with the program) provides an objective written assessment related to the student's integration of the knowledge, skills and social work values needed for entry-level practitioners. This evaluation is based on their observations, supervision, and direct work with students, and assesses the student's preparedness for entry-level generalist practice.

Grant Writing Project

As part of their capstone experience, all graduating students enrolled in field placements are trained to write and submit grants. Students select human service agencies that have identified needs and write a grant on behalf of the agency. The grants are reviewed by outside evaluators from the granting body, which determines the outcome of the grants.

Indirect Measure

Surveys

The Social Work Program utilizes the Baccalaureate Education Assessment Project (BEAP) to provide continuous self-evaluation and assessment of students' performance and achievement. This instrument is created by the Baccalaureate Program Directors Association to ensure continuous assessment of student educational outcome. The Baccalaureate Education Assessment Project (BEAP): BEAP provide a set of surveys that are "designed to provide programs with feedback from multiple consumers within longitudinal timeframe that begins during the profession education process and continues for two years following graduation" (BEAP Assessment Handbook, 1999). BEAP provides needed feedback that enables us to make beneficial changes in the Social Work Program and maintain compliance with CSWE. All students who graduate from the program take the following surveys:

Exit Survey At Graduation
Social Work Values-Posttest    Last week of Seminar class
Alumni/ae Survey Mailed to all graduates two years post-graduation
Employer Survey Two Years Post-graduation

Upon gathering the information, all surveys are mailed to a processing center and the results are mailed back to the program electronically.
