Direct Measures
Many students in the health sciences are required to take nationally recognized tests, such as the MCAT, DAT, OAT, PCAT, and the GRE for admission into professional school. Most of our students do release their scores to our office and therefore comparisons can be made with the national average scores on these tests. The data will be used to evaluate the student outcomes in the areas of knowledge and skills learned.

The Health Science Programs Office tracks the applications, acceptances, and matriculations of our students into professional schools and clinical programs using student-reported data and through direct contact the schools and programs themselves. Acceptance rates are calculated from this data and can be compared to national averages (if available) and acceptance rates from other post-secondary institutions. Student learning outcomes in the areas of knowledge, skills, and values will be evaluated by monitoring acceptance rates.

Indirect Measure
The Health Programs Office will periodically survey (every 5-6 years) the professional schools and clinical programs to which our students have been accepted. The schools are asked to rate UNK students on a scale from 1 to 5 in five different areas by comparing UNK students to students from other institutions who are also in their programs. This will provide Quantitative data for evaluating student outcomes in the areas of knowledge, skills and values. The schools are also asked to provide qualitative remarks about the strengths and weaknesses of the UNK students in their programs.
