Direct Measures
In Biology 420 each student does an oral presentation. The performance is tendered in a research symposium format. All faculty members evaluate the student’s performance in five areas of competency: (1) Introduction,(2) Methods and Materials, (3) Results,(4) Tables and Illustrations, (5) Discussion. These evaluations of a student’s presentation of his/her capstone are the axis of faculty professional evaluation of competency as a biologist.
Two indices of research productivity are calculated. These indices are designed incorporate information about the various levels of academic credibility of presentations and publications.
