The students are expected to satisfy the following criteria. If they fail to do so, they may be re-tested after further preparation.
In their response to the language acquisition and teaching methodology question(s) on their Comprehensive Examination and to any oral follow-up questions, students must be able demonstrate an understanding of the nature of human language and language learning, personal and socio-cultural factors which affect a student's ability to learn a second language, the major historical and contemporary approaches for teaching a second language, how students learn to monitor oral and written production and develop proficiency and the strengths and weakness of contemporary language teaching methods.
