History Graduate Program Checklist for Master's Thesis or Portfolio Papers

Each Master's Thesis or two papers from a non-thesis student's portfolio in his/her primary field will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:

1.  ________ Historical Knowledge: demonstrates broad foundation of historical knowledge in primary field
 
2.  ________ Historiography: displays an in depth knowledge of historiography and recent research in chosen area of specialization.
 
3.  ________ Source Material: demonstrates effective use of primary documents.
 
4.  ________ Originality: represents original research in chosen area of specialization.
 
5.  ________ Analysis of Source Material: demonstrates ability to read and interpret historical documents, books, and articles.
 
6.  ________ Communication Skills: ability to write effectively.
