Communication Disorders Clinical Competency Evaluation

Purpose: To give the student who has obtained 250 hours of clinical experience an opportunity to demonstrate his/her skills and obtain feedback concerning those skills.

Format: The student will be assigned to two supervisors for the evaluation. The student should arrange a convenient time with those supervisors, to meet to discuss the client and schedule the five sessions. The evaluation involves five one hour sessions. The student will evaluate the client's communication abilities and complete enough trial therapy to write comprehensive goals and objectives (i.e. as if planning for a semester's therapy).

Requirements:
  1. A client will be chosen by the clinician from the files available from the client coordinator.
  2. The clinician will read the client's folder and prepare a written proposed plan of action to be distributed to the supervisors.
  3. A re-evaluation conference will be held with the supervisors in which the student discusses the plan of action.
  4. A written lesson plan will be discussed in conference with the supervisors prior to conducting at least one day of trial therapy.
  5. A conference will be held with the supervisors prior to a client or parent conference.
  6. An evaluation report is due within 48 hours of the last client contact.
  7. A written set of goals and objectives are due within 72 hours of the last client contact.
  8. A follow-up conference will be held with supervisors to receive feedback concerning overall experience.
