Social Work Assessment Mission (Replaced F05)

Mission 

Students who complete the Bachelors of Social Work at UNK will possess the professional preparation for generalist entry-level social work practice. They will be empowered with relevant theoretical foundation, strong social work values and ethics, and a wide range of practice skills aimed at providing culturally competent services to individuals, families, groups, and communities within a variety of roles and settings. Students will also be prepared for graduate studies, evaluation of social programs, and leadership roles at a local, state, or national level.

Goals 

  1. Students will receive the theoretical foundation, practice skills, as well as values and ethics needed for entry-level generalist social work practice.
    1. Students will demonstrate integration of social work knowledge, practice skills, and ethics through their interaction in the field placement setting.
    2. Students will show mastery of the following skills appropriate for entry-level practitioners: communication skills, case work skills, ability to use supervision, compliance with social work ethics, and use of community resources.
    3. Students will conduct themselves in accordance with the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics.
    4. Assess whether social work graduates report developing the knowledge, skills, and values the program seeks to deliver.
    5. Assess the extent to which employers believe that social work graduates possess the knowledge, skills, and values that the program seeks to deliver.
     
  2. Students will learn skills for culturally competent social work practice with diverse populations, especially those at risk.
    1. Students will demonstrate culturally competent practice skills in their interaction with clients, supervisors, and within the community.
    2. Students will conduct themselves in accordance with the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics, as they relate with diverse populations.

  3. Students will be familiar with the research and grant writing skills needed for the advancement of social work practice and the pursuit of graduate studies.
    1. Students will demonstrate knowledge related to seeking and pursuing outside funding through grants writing to supplement social programs.
    2. Students will demonstrate ability to write grants for the purpose of supplementing the needs of social programs.
     
  4. Students will exemplify the ethics of community service, volunteerism, and advocacy.
    1. Students will demonstrate compatibility with the service orientation of the profession.
    2. Students will assess and present a case study related of an agency client where they are conducting their field placement, and create a an intervention plan advocating for their needs.
    3. Students will demonstrate knowledge of values and ethics consistent with the Social Work profession.
    4. Students will demonstrate understanding and acceptance of social work values and ethics.
