Students who successfully complete a Criminal Justice major at the University of Nebraska at Kearney will be prepared for productive careers, and serve the needs of Nebraska and its diverse populations.
- Students will be able to gain employment within criminal justice career fields.
Performance Criteria: at least 60% of graduates to be able to work in the criminal justice field within 5 years of graduating from UNK
- Students will demonstrate professional conduct in selected areas of law enforcement, institutional corrections, probation, parole, private security and courts.
Performance Criteria: at least 80% of student interns will receive a ranking of 7 or above on a 10 point Likert scale evaluation done by a criminal justice supervisor in the field.
- Students will demonstrate skills and values necessary to relate to a diverse group of clients within the criminal justice system.

- Students will demonstrate initiative and clear writing within the criminal justice field.
Performance Criteria: at least 80% of student interns will receive a ranking of 7 or above on a 10 point Likert scale evaluation done by a criminal justice supervisor in the field. For those students who do not do an internship (less than 10%), the student will also take the initiative to meet with the other CJ faculty member and discuss the results of the paper.
- Students will be able to demonstrate they understand crime, criminal offenders and the basic values of the criminal justice system.
Performance Criteria: On the mandatory test, students will pass the test with a score of at least 70%. On the 5 Year Survey results of alumni who were satisfied or very satisfied with their preparation in the UNK Criminal Justice program should be 80% or above.
