The assessment of student outcomes at UNK is viewed as a formative process that enables faculty and staff to use results to focus on enhancement of teaching and improvement of student performance. The Assessment Program at UNK focuses on the need for development and utilization of assessment of student outcomes in a systematic and continuous manner. Faculty ownership of the assessment process is the overall goal for successful implementation and utilization of assessment outcomes at UNK. The process is illustrated in The UNK Assessment Process diagram at the bottom of this page.
The primary goals of the assessment program include:
- Implementing a strategic assessment plan
- Establishing guidelines for the assessment and improvement of student outcomes
- Assisting colleges, departments and programs with
- assessment planning
- implementation
- evaluation of data
- revision of assessment plans or tools
- application of assessment results to strategic planning and educational change
- Disseminating data obtained from assessment
- Conducting/assisting assessment initiatives that address institutional questions or issues that impact students
- Conducting an annual review and analysis of assessment planning and implementation of academic programs
- Reporting on the progress of University programs in the implementation and utilization of assessment
- Analyzing data trends across programs in order to identify potential areas of faculty or program development needs
