 Dr. Drew Appleby

In his presentation, Dr. Appleby will address the following questions:

How do faculty perceive their roles as academic advisers?
What is the linguistic relationship between the words teaching and advising?
Do effective teachers and effective advisers do the same thing?
Is there more than one type of academic advising?
Can academic advising produce active learning?
Can academic advising increase human capital?
Can academic advising qualify as a scholarly activity?

Drew Appleby has received many awards for his teaching, advising, and mentoring, and the research he has performed on all three of these activities. He frequently gives keynote addresses at conferences on teaching and psychology, and he was recently chosen to give the G. Stanley Hall Teaching Lecture at the American Psychological Association.  He currently is Director of Undergraduate Studies in Psychology at  IUPUI.
