STUDENT’S COMMENTS
To qualify, it wasn’t necessary because they were Honors courses, though at times it was.
- Our courses attempt to embrace elements of normative debate. Please react…
There were many times professors used class time to debate important topics. Those debates make me think more deeply about issues.

- It is important that the honors environment be conducive to learning, achievement, and participation. This is not possible if students are attacked or treated unfairly on the basis of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, personal favoritism, or other such factors. The honors Program is committed to an open and free environment and opposes any element that might create a hostile learning environment.

STUDENTS COMMENTS
Advising was great and you made me feel like I was an important part of the program.
All in all, I was satisfied with the Honors program. I believe that the “honors experience” is greatly influenced on the faculty’s willingness to follow a more thought- provoking class style. I feel that adding more work for an honors student does not work. The honors program should be more challenging, but adding more work is ridiculous. Just being in the honors program proves that one has excelled in one form or another and that should be enough communities one not made by just pancake feeds and ice cream socials. They begin in the halls and work their way to the classroom. I think the best way to improve on community is to have a better hall community. However, again, I am not unpleased with my UNK Honor’s Program experience.
A particular strength of the Honors Program, and its most valuable asset in my eyes, is the quality of Honors professors. All Honors professors I experienced were not only obviously knowledgeable, but personal growth as much as academic growth. I enjoyed them all thoroughly. Thank you!
Certain things (only a few) need to be changed to help the students benefit more from the honors program.
- One central Honors location
- H-options are good in theory but bad in implementation
- Specifically Honors faculty that don’t teach non-honors classes
I enjoyed my experience with the Honors program. I felt the H-options helped me learn more about my major. I also felt that being an Honors student made me work harder because I held myself to a higher standard. I wasn’t able to join many clubs because of work, but I felt apart of something by being in the Honors program. I met all my best friends in the Honors dorm and had a great experience. I did benefit from the Honors program.
The atmosphere and directorship of D. Jussel was very uplifting, encouraging, positive, and allowed me to pursue many creative avenues and interests.
The atmosphere and directorship of P. Longo left me very uneasy, lacking continuous/support and I felt a little concern for me as an individual. I felt as if my creativity was not appreciated or were recognized while advising with P. Longo. For this reason, I felt as if the Honors community (I assume with related reasons) tended to become disjointed and less focused. . . less of a UNIT, but more random individuals.
I felt much support and enthusiasm for my creative ideas and techniques for Dr. Davis throughout the years and especially during this Spring ’04 semester as Honors head. I’m thankful my Honors experience began and ended on such a positive note!!
Stout honors housing has been a HUGE and critical part of my experience in the Honors Program. Thank you so very much for creating and pursuing such an atmosphere and living quarters for US! It was truly Key for my college career.
