Minutes of the Meeting of the Deans Council
Tuesday, August 12, 2008 – 9 a.m.

- John Anderson RE American Democracy Project: John discussed the purpose of the American Democracy Project at UNK is to promote both civic and political engagement among students, providing opportunities across campus for individuals to be involved in the democratic community through volunteering, advocacy, voting, and service learning. The American Democracy Project is a national program gaining momentum on university campuses. The American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) sponsors the program, in partnership with The New York Times. He also discussed the benefits having the New York Times on campus and explained some of his funding sources and asked the Deans if they would be willing to support this project as well. Ed and Bruce both volunteered their support.
- Capital Renewal Process Forms: Finnie discussed the New Capital Renewal Process Vice Chancellor Johnson is implementing this fiscal year. It will better serve the university campus in managing capital renewal projects. He distributed the forms and handouts and recommended any major projects be submitted for approval.

- Finnie discussed the new cell phone and blackberry policy UNL had recently implemented
- Finnie reported he would be retiring in June
There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting of the Deans will be on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 9 a.m., Warner Conference Room
