ABSENT: Lois Flagstad, Bruce Forster
GUESTS: Barbara Johnson, Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance
- Vice Chancellor Barbara Johnson RE Pandemic Flu: Barbara discussed that our UNK Emergency Operations Team and the UNK Pandemic Flu Committee are continuing to work on providing a complete plan for UNK. She discussed that currently they had been working on a plan to identify specific halls for well students as well as sick students, as the sick students will need to be in isolation. She also reported that FEMA says if there is one case of the Avian Flu reported in the United States they will lock down the country. Discussion was held on State Government plans to proceed at this point. Barbara said she would get more information regarding the state’s plan.
- Procedures for Faculty and Staff in case of a medical incident on campus: Frank was inquiring if there had been any decisions made on this item when it was discussed in the Vice Chancellors' Council. He had received an inquiry about it and just wanted to know if anything has been decided. Finnie stated that there had been no decisions made regarding Procedures for Faculty and Staff in case of a medical incident on campus.
- Pandemic Flu Updates: Frank reported that they are currently working on draft plans and procedures in case the campus has to shut down. He plans to have a draft proposal at the next Deans Council Meeting. Barbara stressed that we need to have a plan in place that has been tested before you actually have to use it.
Other Items: Finnie discussed and distributed a handout from the March 2007 CAO Meeting, titled Existing Family Friendly Policies available to UNL Faculty & New Proposed Family Friendly Policies for Regular UNL Faculty. Finnie reported that we should consider these policies very carefully as they could cause extra costs for the University. Discussion was held and the Deans unanimously support the policies.
Discussion was held on provisions in the Rank and Tenure guidelines regarding extensions for promotion and tenure. The faculty members must make the request for the extension themselves.
Discussion was held on distribution of adjunct rates to colleges when faculty are doing administrative jobs. Finnie ask the Deans to think about this process and we will discuss it again at later meeting.
There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting of the Deans will be on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 9 a.m. in the Warner Conference Room.
