Minutes of the Meeting of the Deans Council
Tuesday, April 11, 2006 – 9:00 a.m.
Warner Conference Room
PRESENT: Finnie Murray, Ken Nikels, Larry Hardesty, Marilyn Hadley, Frank Harrold and William Jurma
ABSENT: Lois Flagstad, Bruce Forster
GUESTS: Barbara Holland, Gerry Stirtz
- Dr. Barbara Holland, Director of the National Service-Learning Clearinghouse Ms. Gerry Stirtz introduced Dr. Barbara Holland to the Deans Council. Dr. Holland discussed the growth and importance of service-learning at all levels of education. She explained that service-learning is impacting faculty and students’ decisions about where they want to work and study. Dr. Holland stated that it’s important to develop a plan that brings together meaningful community service with teaching and thought to improve the learning experience, teach civic responsibility and strengthen communities.
- Other Items Finnie explained that we had received more requests for funding from both the Pepsi Experiential Learning Funds and the Student Talent Development Funds then we had money to award. He also stated that several of the applicants had requested funds from the wrong pool of funds.
There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting of the Deans will be on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. in the Warner Conference Room.
