Welcome to the Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Leisure Studies Department. We hope this web page provides you with a clear snapshot of our mission, degree programs, research foci, and service activities. Our faculty members strive to guarantee students a top quality, innovative and relevant educational experience. While teaching is central to our mission, our faculty afford equal importance to nurturing of skills associated with problem solving, decision making, and communication.
The department offers undergraduate degree programs in: Health Education, Athletic Training, Physical Education, Exercise Science, Travel & Tourism, Recreation & Park Management, and Sports Administration. The department also offers supplemental endorsements in Strength Training, Adaptive Physical Education, and Coaching. Masters of Arts degrees are available in: Adaptive Physical Education, Master Teacher of Physical Education, Exercise Science, General Physical Education with specializations in Sports Administration and Recreation.

Department Objectives:
Enable students to develop sports skills which they may use for many years in enrichment of their leisure hours;
Emphasize the importance of lifelong appreciation for fitness and healthful living;
Emphasize sportsmanship and consideration for others;
Provide schools with coaches, physical education teachers, athletic trainers and health education teachers who possess highly developed technical skills, the zeal for educational betterment and personal and cultural qualities which will make them respected citizens of communities in which they teach;
Prepare persons for professions in the leisure markets, sports administration, athletic training, recreation, fitness, and travel and tourism.
