Beside the Bachelor of Science degrees mentioned above, UNK offers a Master of Science degree, and the only Distance Education Master of Science degree in Biology offered anywhere in the world. Most courses include required laboratory sessions in which students apply scientific methods learning to collect and analyze data while working with faculty. A Biology degree may prepare students for careers and opportunities in a variety of fields such as; agriculturally related areas, environmental areas, energy related areas, molecular biology, teaching, government positions, and advanced study in health programs such as medicine, and various graduate programs. Minors or other selected course work outside the Biological Sciences area will likely enhance career opportunities.
With 17 full-time faculty members having terminal degrees, the Department of Biology is large enough to have a person with specific training in the area teaching the courses offered by the department. However, our department is small enough that students can get to know and communicate with the individual faculty members. Students and teaching remain the first priority with science faculty at UNK.
The Department of Biology is seeking highly motivated students who are goal oriented. If you would like additional information, please contact the Department of Biology at (308) 865-8548 or e-mail Chairman, Biology Department.
