Strategic Planning at UNK: Realizing the Vision, Phase II

Colleagues,

I am pleased to share with you the Strategic Planning Committee’s complete draft of a revised plan for UNK.  Last spring the SPC invited your feedback on the Phase I planning document, and suggestions were incorporated into a final version in fall 2015.  The development of implementation plans was the next step in our process and, to that end, five groups with campus-wide representation (participants noted below) began their work.  Those plans were presented to the SPC in December.

Group 1:  Charlie Bicak (Chair), John La Duke, Greg Broekemier, Grace Mims, Sam Umland, Janet Steele, Rod Flanigan, Scott Unruh, Sharon Campbell, Satoshi Machida, Deb Schroeder, Martonia Gaskill, Holly Peterson, Evan Calhoun, and Brittney King.

Group 2:  Ed Scantling and Gilbert Hinga (Co-Chairs), Sheryl Feinstein, Toni Hill, Carrie Kracl, Martha Kruse, Suzanne Maughan, George Holman, Dusty Newton, Kyle Means, Michael Stopford, Tami Moore, Aaron Estes, Bree Dority, Gloria Vavricka, and Dallas Doering.

Group 3:  Kathy Zuckweiler and Jane Sheldon (Co-Chairs), Tim Burkink, Kyle Luthans, Jan Moore, Daren Snider, Paul Twigg, Mary Chinnock Petroski, Dustin Favinger, Laura Hyatt, Rochelle Kruger, Steve McGahon, David Palmer, and Chris Wilson.

Group 4:  Kenya Taylor and Jean Mattson (Co-Chairs), Janet Wilke, Laurie Swinney, Sherry Crow, Tim Farrell, Scott Darveau, Lee McQueen, Rich Brodersen, Pete Kotsiopulos, Brian Cox, Chelsea Swarm, Richard Mocarski, Susan Mueller, and Megan Fryda.

Group 5:  Kelly Bartling (Chair), Bill Jurma, Paul Plinske, Alan Wedige, Lucas Dart, Shawn Kaskie, Marsha Yeagley, Dick Meyer, Rick Schuessler, Katherine Kime, Audrey Kauders, Will Stoutamire, Noah Rogoff, and Todd Gottula.

On behalf of the SPC, I invite you to review the completed draft of the strategic plan.  Your constructive feedback and constructive suggestions are welcome and encouraged and may be submitted via any of the following options.

  • dialogue box
  • direct communication with me or members of the SPC
  • communicate with deans/directors/supervisors whom we've asked to engage units
  • campus forum—date and location to be announced soon

I commend the members of our Strategic Planning Committee and Implementation Planning Groups.  They have committed significant time and energy to our common goal of producing a well-thought, meaningful, visionary strategy that will guide our campus into the next decade.  After review of campus feedback, and when the Strategic Plan is finalized, I will present it to President Bounds and the NU Board of Regents.

Sincerely,

Douglas A. Kristensen, J.D.
